How to Maintain a Hydraulic Wire Crimper?

Applications and Maintenance Methods of Hydraulic Wire Crimpers

The application range of hydraulic crimping tools is extremely wide. Before using a hydraulic wire crimper, we must definitely know its maintenance methods—this is the only way to use it better. If you are interested in this topic, let’s take a look together; we hope it can be helpful to relevant professionals.

One side of the hydraulic wire crimper is used for stripping wires, and there should be a gap of approximately 1.5mm when it is closed. Additionally, it features gap-free cutting. The space in the middle of the “convex” shape is used for crimping wires. You can insert an RJ45 connector  into it and check whether the 8 serrations are completely aligned with the connector. Do not press it hard, otherwise the RJ45 connector will be damaged and unusable. In the production process of network cables, this type of hydraulic wire crimper is one of the indispensable tools nowadays and also a key contributor to ensuring smooth network connectivity. Hydraulic wire crimpers are not only used for crimping network cables but can also perform three tasks: wire cutting, wire stripping, and wire crimping. In particular, the outer sheath of the network cable should also extend 2 to 3 centimeters into the RJ45 connector. The purpose of this is to prevent the wire ends from falling off and increase the contact area. There is no need to strip the wire; when pressed tightly, the copper sheets inside the RJ45 connector will embed into the wire and make contact with the copper wires.

Therefore, hydraulic wire crimpers used for production and inspection are made of beryllium bronze and aluminum bronze. These crimpers are mainly suitable for various industries such as oil refining and petrochemicals, coal mining, oil fields, and natural gas chemicals.

The key points for maintaining a hydraulic wire crimper include checking whether the four wires  are loose, cleaning the crimper, applying lubricating oil to the hydraulic hose joints, and removing dirt from the oil clamps. Knurled hydraulic wire crimpers are lightweight and durable, and can be operated with one hand. For example:

  1. Before each work shift, check whether all fastening screws are loose; if they are loose, they must be tightened.
  2. After each relocation, clean the main clamp, lamp clamp  and pliers with gasoline or diesel oil, and inject lubricating oil into each hydraulic hose joint.
  3. After cleaning the hydraulic wire crimper, apply grease to the jaw plates, jaw frames, and mouth gears.

If the driving force is insufficient and the jaw plates cannot stretch, the working pressure of the braking system must be adjusted and tightened, and the bolts of each hole base should be tightened slightly (but not too tight). Pay attention to the initial temperature of the friction plates. Alternatively, check the clamp after each use: if there is water stains or oil stains, they must be treated immediately. Steam cleaning can prevent damage to each bearing and avoid water seepage that may damage the equipment  During maintenance, the temperature of the gear oil should not exceed 65°C; overheating will cause the seal of the hydraulic system to fail. The gear oil must always be kept clean, and the oil filter (which separates oil from water in general applications) should be used consistently. If the oil is dirty, it should be replaced immediately.
